Job Title:      Day Service and Outreach Manager

Reports to:   Operations Manager

Salary:          £32,130

Hours:           37.5 Full Time

Purpose of role

To oversee the day to day running of Aurora Nexus’ Day Services and Outreach support in the boroughs of Lewisham and Bromley. We provide support to adults with learning disabilities/autism and complex health needs in a day centre, social enterprises and within their own homes. We are looking for an individual to provide leadership and operational management to these services, ensuring the people we support receive a high-quality service, and ensuring that our regulatory standards and policies and procedures are adhered to. The manager will be expected to grow and develop these services in line with our strategic plan.

 

Scope of Job

  • To support staff in preparing, agreeing and reviewing support plans and risk assessments
  • To identify and address barriers to community inclusion, supporting
    individuals to improve their own physical and mental wellbeing
  • To ensure people we support are supported to access community-based activities, to promote independence and confidence in the community. Develop and maintain positive relationships and communication with families, advocates, social services, local retailers, partnership organisations and other stakeholders where appropriate
  • To ensure referral meetings, assessments, reviews, planning meetings for the people we support or intend to support are carried out in a timely manner and in line with best interests/practice.
  • To market the services to purchasers, partner organisations and referring agencies, using a variety of methods including developing promotional materials and visits.
  • To ensure staff are aware of and implement safeguarding policies and procedures in accordance with best practice
  • To ensure staff comply with required legislation and contract requirements
  • To carry out staff supervisions, coaching and mentoring, and address performance issues
  • To maintain confidentiality and respect the dignity and privacy of individuals in line with Aurora Nexus’ policies and procedures
  • To liaise with partner agencies as required
  • To have a working understanding of the Mental Capacity Act
  • To ensure familiarity with and understanding of the requirements of the organisation’s health and safety policies and procedures, and ensure that all Health and Safety standards are reflected in work practice
  • To report and assist with any investigations into accidents or incidents and draw up an action plan to prevent recurrence
  • To work within service budgets
  • To network with the local and wider community to build relationships
  • To write flexible rotas that meet the needs of the people we support
  • To support staff with session and activity planning. Thinking creatively to come up with new ideas and deploying staff as necessary to ensure the needs of the individuals are met
  • To be able to solve complex problems and develop management recommendations in consultation with the Operations Manager
  • To manage resources creatively and effectively to make best use of allocated budgets
  • To promote professionalism and effective communication
  • To maintain an overview of the support that is being provided to each individual
  • To listen and offer support to members of the staff team, to support decisions being made by individuals, considering individual aspirations
  • To ensure the safe support of the people we support including, moving and handling, personal care and medication administration
  • To advocate for individuals on a day-to-day basis and promote self-advocacy as appropriate
  • To take part in Aurora Nexus’ on call system (first tier)
  • Aurora-Nexus reserves the right to amend or add to job descriptions, and to change the employee’s place of work as needed

 

Criteria:

Qualifications

  • QCF or equivalent NVQ Level 5 in Health and Social Care (desirable)
  • Willingness to complete further training

Demonstrable Knowledge

  • A thorough understanding of the values and principles of Aurora Nexus
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by people with varying learning disabilities and a commitment to supporting people to achieve their aspirations and improve wellbeing
  • A thorough understanding of safeguarding issues and procedures, including the Mental Health Act/DoLs and an ability to implement them
  • A working knowledge of current legislation and best practice
  • Knowledge of the value and principles of PBS (Positive Behavior Support)

Skills/ Experience

  • Experience of working in social care and at a supervisory level
  • Ability to represent the service in a variety of settings
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Excellent IT Skills – Microsoft Office/Teams, iPads and Assistive Technology
  • Proven ability to support and supervise others
  • Performance management and staff coaching skills
  • Understanding of effective budget management
  • Empathic attitude with the ability to mediate and support individuals
